Ben Jakober , actually Benedict Jakober , (born July 31, 1930 in Vienna ) is a British sculptor and object artist.

Life

Jakober was born to Hungarian parents in Vienna. He grew up in England and received British citizenship. He lived in Paris and Tahiti and ultimately moved with his wife Yannick Vu to the Spanish Mediterranean island of Mallorca , where he lives in the Sa Bassa Blanca estate in the municipality of Alcúdia on the La Victòria peninsula . In memory of their daughter Maima, who died in a motorcycle accident on Moorea in Polynesia , the couple runs an underground museum there, in which pictures of children from the 16th to 19th centuries are shown.

The catalog raisonné of his works shows more than a thousand items. Many works are in public space, such as a large metal amphora in front of the departure hall of Palma de Mallorca Airport , a bulbous vessel on the motorway near Costa d´en Blanes , a stone bookshelf in Pollença ( Biblioteca Mallorquina ) and an oversized protective helmet in Parque del Mar .
