Axel Thorer

Axel Thorer (born November 29, 1939 in Tanga , Tanganjika , today Tanzania) is a German journalist and author .

Life

Thorer comes from the furrier and fur trader dynasty of the Thorer family , who ran one of the leading companies in the European fur industry at Leipzig's Brühl and after 1945 in Offenbach. Axel Thorer was an editor for various magazines such as Playboy and an author for Ferenczy ; Most recently he was deputy editor-in-chief at Bunten , which he retired at the end of 2008.

Thorer always fostered the image of the explorer and adventurer, which was also expressed optically, for example in his powerful mustache, which has become a trademark. He is a member of the Explorers Club and accompanied Heinrich Harrer and other researchers on expeditions. Among his discoveries, he counts a lake in the Ruwenzori massif and the rediscovery of the Nigrifron antelope in the Ruwenzori massif, each of which has its own sources. He is an honorary citizen of the city of Nashville (US state Tennessee). He became famous for reporting on the Camel Trophy with Karl-Heinz Blumenberg .

At the end of 1989, when he was editor-in-chief of the German Esquire , he tried the rowdy talk show AT - The Other Talkshow on RTLplus , which was discontinued on April 28, 1990 with the fourth episode.

Thorer is married for the second time. His son Tim Thorer (born July 3, 1979) is an editor at the Bild newspaper , his daughter Ann Thorer (born August 11, 1975 in Munich) is editor-in-chief of the magazine Joy . She temporarily held this position at Shape .
