The Ben Vorlich ( Beinn Mhùrlaig in Gaelic ) is a 985 meter high mountain in the Stirling Council Area in Scotland . Its name can be translated as mountain of the bay . It is one of the Munros and is located in the southern highlands north of the town of Callander above the south bank of Loch Earn .
Due to its location on the southern edge of the Highlands, the Ben Vorlich is one of the most famous and popular Scottish mountains with mountain hikers. It can be seen clearly from large parts of the Central Lowlands when the weather is nice . From its summit there is a wide view of the Lowlands, but also of the parts of the Highlands north and west of the mountain. The shortest ascent leads from Ardvorlich on the south bank of Loch Earn in about four hours over the north ridge to the summit. The southwest ridge connects the Ben Vorlich via a cut with the neighboring, ten meter lower Stùc a 'Chroin , which is also classified as Munro. Further ascent routes lead over the southeast and northwest ridge.
