Benaja is the name of 12 people in the Old Testament .

etymology

The Hebrew personal name "Benaja" has been handed down in two different spellings: בְּנָיָהוּ bənājāhû andבְּנָיָה bənājāh . It is a verb sentence name, consisting of subject and predicate. Subject (and at the same time theophoric element) is a form of " YHWH " (יָהוּ jāhû orיָה jāh ), the predicate derives from the verb rootבנה bnh , German ' to build up' . The name can be translated as "YHWH has built". This is likely to be understood as “building a house” (which means “giving offspring”). The Septuagint gives the name as Βαναια (ς) Banaia (s) , the Vulgate as Banaias .

Benaja, son of Jehoiada

The most extensive are the biblical accounts of Benaja, the son of Jehoiada , from Kabzeel . At the time of King David he was the "overseer" of the Krethi and Plethi ( 2 Sam 23.20  EU ). He was one of David's heroes . He slew the two sons of Ariel of Moab . He killed a "handsome" Egyptian with his own spear ( 2 Sam 23.21  EU ). On behalf of Solomon , Benaja Adonija killed an older son of David, who had also made claims to the throne ( 1 Kings 2.25  EU ), then Joab , David's military leader, who had supported Adonija ( 1 Kings 2.34  EU ). Thereupon he was promoted by Solomon to military leader ( 1 Kings 2,35  EU ). He also killed Shimei because he had not obeyed an order from Solomon ( 1 Kings 2.46  EU ).
