Benedetto Innocente Alfieri (born June 3, 1699 in Rome , † December 6, 1767 in Turin ) was an Italian builder. He belonged to the Count's Alfieri family and was the uncle of the poet Vittorio Alfieri .

Life

Benedetto Alfieri studied law and learned a. a. at the universities of Rome and Turin. In addition, he was also politically active. He was very interested in architecture and was self-taught in this area . During his time as Mayor of Asti in the years 1726–1730, he planned numerous buildings. He was in 1736 by King Karl Emanuel III. Appointed to Turin and from 1739 was the first civil architect at the court, a new position created for him. His most famous buildings are u. a. the Palazzo Ghilini in Alessandria (built around 1732) and the Teatro Regio di Torino (built around 1740). Alfieri is considered to be one of the outstanding representatives of the late baroque in Italy due to the numerous buildings he has built . He died of complications from pneumonia.

The Instituto d'Arte Benedetto Alfieri in Asti was named in his honor.
