Benedikt Löwe (born April 18, 1972 in Hamburg ) is a German logician and mathematician . He currently works at the universities of Amsterdam , Hamburg and Cambridge . At the University of Hamburg he is Professor of Mathematical Logic and Interdisciplinary Applications of Logic .

Life

Löwe studied at the university in his native Hamburg, where he obtained a degree in mathematics and philosophy. He then continued his studies in Tübingen, Berlin and Berkeley. He received his doctorate in 2001 from the Humboldt University in Berlin with a dissertation on game theory ( Blackwell determinacy ). He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Bonn , where he completed his habilitation in 2004 and taught as a private lecturer until 2011 . From 2005 he also worked as a private lecturer at the University of Hamburg, where he became professor in 2009. He has also been teaching as "Universitair Docent" since 2003 and since 2012 as "Universitair Hoofddocent" at the University of Amsterdam.

Löwe is chairman of the German Association for Mathematical Logic and for Basic Research in the Exact Sciences and Secretary General of the Division for Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science of the International Association for the History and Theory of Science .
