Tom Martinsen

Tom Martinsen , also Tom Børge Martinsen (* 1957 in Hamar , Norway ; † July 18, 2019 ), was a Norwegian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

After graduating from high school in Hamar, he studied at the Oslo University of Music and the Stockholm Opera School . His teachers included Nicolai Gedda , Tito Gobbi and Peter Pears . In 1981 he made his debut at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. He was a member of the ensemble at the Stadttheater Koblenz (1986–1988) and at the Musiktheater im Revier , Gelsenkirchen (1988–1993) and, since 1991, at the Semperoper in Dresden . In addition, Martinsen made guest appearances on numerous stages around the world. He died unexpectedly in July 2019 at the age of 62.
