Benjamin Hofstetter (born January 6, 1952 ; resident in Langnau im Emmental ) is a Swiss veterinarian and former politician ( Free List ).

Life

Benjamin Hofstetter received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Bern in 1980 . From 1983 to 1985 he presided over the IG Velo Bern . As a resident of Reconvilier , he was elected to the seat of the government council of the canton of Bern reserved for the Bernese Jura in 1986 . He prevailed against Geneviève Aubry ( FDP ). Benjamin Hofstetter and Leni Robert were the first green councilors in Switzerland. Hofstetter headed the police department. In 1990 he was not re-elected, his successor was the free-thinking Mario Annoni . He then worked in the animal welfare department of the Veterinary Service of the Canton of Bern.

Since Hofstetter had achieved a majority of votes in the entire canton in 1986, but not in the Bernese Jura, a new counting procedure was subsequently determined that weighted the votes of the Bernese Jura population more heavily: the geometric mean of the votes in the entire canton and the votes in the Bernese Law.
