Benno Zierer (born July 10, 1956 in Kleinbachern ) is a German politician. He has represented the free voters in the Bavarian state parliament since 2013 .

Life

Zierer lives in Kleinbachern , a district of Freising, and has been a farmer since 1978. He is married and has five children.

Since 1990 he has been a member of the Freising City Council for the Free Voters, and from 2008 to 2014 he was 3rd Mayor . Since 1996 he has also been a district councilor in the Freising district council. In 2012 he ran for the Free Voters as a candidate for the election of Mayor of Freising and received 14.4% of the vote. In the Bavarian state elections in September 2013 , he applied for a state parliament mandate in the Freising constituency and received the third-best first vote result after Florian Herrmann (CSU) and Christian Magerl (Greens) with 13.3% . Together with the second votes, that was enough for entry into the state parliament, despite a bad placement on the list. From 2013 to 2018, he worked on the Environment and Consumer Protection Committee and the Submissions and Complaints Committee.

In the Bavarian state elections on October 14, 2018 , Zierer achieved 21 percent of the vote in the Freising district. He received a total of 31,180 votes, the third most votes of his party in Upper Bavaria. With this result, Zierer moved back to the state parliament from fourth place on the list. He is a member of the Committee on the Environment and Consumer Protection and, as environmental policy spokesman, represents the positions of his group.

According to his own statement, Zierer wants to take care of preventing a third runway at Munich Airport and strengthening family farms.
