Benyamin Yosef Bria

Benyamin Yosef Bria (born August 7, 1956 in Decabiti, Belu Governorate , West Timor , Indonesia , † September 18, 2007 in Singapore ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Denpasar in Bali in Indonesia.

Life

Benyamin Bria studied Catholic theology and philosophy from 1976 to 1984 at the seminaries in Lalian and Ledalero and Ritapiret in Flores, Indonesia . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1985 . Bria first worked in pastoral care in the diocese of Atambua . After studying canon law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC , he received his doctorate from the University of Ottawa , Canada . Bria has been professor of canon law at St. Michael Major Seminary in Kupang since 1993 .

On April 14, 2000 he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Denpasar by John Paul II . He was ordained bishop on August 6, 2000 by Bishop Anton Pain Ratu .

He died of complications from kidney failure at Mount Elisabeth Hospital in Singapore.
