Beqë Cufaj

Beqë Cufaj (born December 3, 1970 in Dečani , Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar Albanian writer and journalist . Cufaj has represented the Republic of Kosovo as ambassador to Germany since summer 2018 .

Life and career

Beqë Cufaj attended elementary school in his hometown from 1977 to 1985 and then to 1989 the high school "Vëllëzerit Frashëri". From 1990 to 1994 he studied Albanian language and literature at the University of Pristina . Cufaj has lived in Germany since 1995, is married and has two daughters.

Cufaj lived and worked in Stuttgart and Bonn until his accreditation as ambassador in July 2018 . a. works as a freelancer for international newspapers (such as FAZ , Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Courrier International ). He has been writing columns for the Albanian daily and weekly newspapers Zeri, Koha, Fjala since his student days and was an accredited correspondent at the Federal Press Office in Germany from 1997 to 2007 for the daily newspaper “Koha Ditore”. In 2013 he co-founded the news portal www.gazetablic.com.

  • 2001: “Bruno Kreisky” sponsorship award for the book “Kosova - Return to a Devastated Land”.
  • 2005: Prize "Book of the Year 2005" from the Kosovar Writers' Union for "Shkëlqimi i Huaj".
  • 2012: “Book of the Year” award from the Stuttgart Literature House business club for “projekt @ party”.
