Berberis × media is a species of the barberry genus ( Berberis ). It is a hybrid of the Thunberg barberry ( Berberis thunbergii ) and Berberis × hybrido-gagnepainii .

The evergreen round shrub is loosely branched and can reach a height of 2.5 meters; the red-brown branches of the shrub are smooth, the thorns are one to three-part, shiny red-brown and up to 2.5 centimeters long. The leaves are oblong-egg-shaped, very shiny dark green on the top, blue-green on the underside, up to 3 centimeters long and with 3 to 4 spiked teeth on each side. The yellow flowers appear from May to June and are solitary or in groups of four; Fruits are seldom formed.

Berberis × media originated as a cultivated form and is often used as an ornamental shrub. 'Parkjuwel' and 'Red Jewel' with shiny brownish-red, later purple-brown and finally dark green leaves are cultivated forms of this hybrid.
