Berehanu Wendemu Tsegu (born September 30, 1999 ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Berehanu Tsegu gained his first international experience at the African Cross Country Championships 2018 in Ech Cheliff , where he finished fourth in the U20 class after 25:11 minutes. The following year he was second at the EDP Meia Maratona de Lisboa with 59:41 min and then won the Jianzhen International Half Marathon with 59:56 min. At the Africa Games in Rabat , he won the 10,000 meter run in 27: 56.81 minutes.

doping

At the Copenhagen half marathon he was third in 59:22 minutes. The Independent Athletes Commission (AIU) suspended him in December 2019 on suspicion of blood doping . In March 2020, he was banned for four years retrospectively from September 15, 2019 and his result from the Copenhagen Marathon was canceled because he had tested positive for the doping agent EPO .
