Jacopo Berengario da Carpi (also: Giacomo, Jacobus, Petrus Berengarius or Carpus; * around 1470 in Carpi ; † November 24, 1530 in Ferrara ) was the most important pre-Vesal anatomist.

His father was a surgeon or surgeon in Carpi. He has been taught anatomy since his early teens.

He taught surgery in Pavia and in Bologna from 1502 to 1507 . Via Ferrara he moved to Rome , where he made good money with the treatment of syphilis .

Isagogues

In 1521 he wrote a very detailed anatomy and in the following year the anatomical textbook Isagoge , which is still based on the anathomia of his model, Mondino dei Luzzi . He was still very much attached to Galen's authority and partly took over his errors.
