The mountain ladybird ( Hippodamia notata syn. Ceratomegilla notata ) is a beetle from the ladybird family (Coccinellidae).
features
The beetles are 4.5 to 5.5 millimeters long. Their wings are yellow-orange to red and have black spots. The pronotum is predominantly drawn in black, towards the front the borderline to the light front edge is bluntly jagged. The legs are black, partly brown, the antennae are also brown. The species can be confused with the variable flat ladybird ( Hippodamia variegata ), but this one differs by its black pronotum drawing, which has crown-shaped rounded teeth.
Occurrence and way of life
The animals colonize forest edges and clearings, but also open habitats. The beetles are often found on perennial plants such as B. on nettles . Like most species of ladybirds, the adults and larvae of the mountain ladybirds feed on aphids .
