The Berger du Languedoc ( French . For Shepherd of the Languedoc ) a French dog type in southern France mainly as a herding dog is used.
Origin and history
Dogs of this type were very common in the south of France, depending on the area they had different names, such as Berger de Camargue , Berger de la Crau ( Rhône ), Berger des Cévennes ( Cevennes ). The shepherds used it to drive their flocks of sheep. Some of these types are believed to have died out, if only for the reason that the sheep herds have become much less. The French cynological umbrella organization SCC initiated the recognition process for the Berger de la Crau variety in 2009 and assumes that there will still be a few hundred dogs of this type still alive.
The Berger du Languedoc may also be an ancestor of the Bouvier des Flandres .
description
Compared to other French Shepherds, he is smaller, 41 to 51 cm. The hair is short to moderately long, shaggy, in different shades of color from pale yellow to black-tan. As with the Berger des Pyrénées Face Rase, the face is short-haired on all strokes.
