The Bergkirche Opfingen in the Freiburg district of Opfingen is the evangelical church of the village. It stands on a hill above the town center and can be reached from the town via a staircase behind the town hall. The local cemetery adjoins two sides of the south-west / north-east facing church. After the secularization at the beginning of the 19th century, the community took over the church, so that today, after the incorporation of the village, it is owned by the city of Freiburg.

The rectangular hall building with a hipped roof was added to the preserved tower of this previous church in 1778 according to plans by Carl Friedrich Meerwein in place of the first older, dilapidated church from 1525. The tower was raised. It is covered with a gable roof on which a frame is attached to accommodate a stork's nest , which is also regularly used by storks. On the sides of the tower facing the town there is a dial of the tower clock under the sound openings for the bell from 1698 .

Inside the hall church is of the greatest decorative restraint. Only a few Rococo elements (balustrades of the galleries, pulpit, organ) bear witness to the time the church was built. One enters the church from the southwest and comes into a very bright church hall, which is illuminated by square (lower row) and rectangular clear glass lattice windows (upper row). The ceiling is a simple coffered ceiling . There is a large gallery above the entrance area . A smaller gallery on the opposite side behind the altar houses the organ , which was built in the workshop of Georg Marcus Stein in 1781 and is one of the oldest recordable instruments in Breisgau . It has 800 pipes in 12 registers on a manual and pedal . It was last restored in 1995 by the Waldkircher Orgelbau Jäger & Brommer workshop .
