The Mount Magazine was a building as a granary for miners and residents of mining towns served.
History (Saxony)
The establishment of mountain magazines in the Electorate and Kingdom of Saxony took place increasingly from 1806 at the suggestion of the chief miner Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich von Trebra . In view of the great famines that increased in the Upper Ore Mountains at the end of the 18th century due to several bad harvests, Trebra recommended the construction of multi-storey, stone storage buildings in which grain could be deposited after the harvest and stored for several months or even years.

- Marienberg : built 1806–1809, from 1858 various uses including a military chamber, factory, glider piloting school and fruit store, after renovation and reconstruction used as a museum since 2006

- Freiberg : 1784–1805 conversion of Freudenstein Castle into a mountain storage facility, used as a granary until 1979
- Johanngeorgenstadt : built 1806–1812, used as a granary until 1847, converted into a residential building after the fire in 1899, demolished in autumn 2005
- Osterode am Harz : built 1719–1722 as a Harzkornmagazin , since 1989 seat of the city administration
