The Bergstein , also called Hambacher Bergstein , is a sandstone rock formation that has been designated a natural monument and is located in the Palatinate Forest on the eastern slope of the Hohen Loog on the outskirts of the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . He bears the number ND-7316-202.

Location and description

The Bergstein is a rock section, the summit of which is about 481.3  m above sea level. NHN is located on the Hohe Loog massif belonging to the eastern demolition of the Palatinate Forest. It is measured from the eastern slope, where there is a small scree field, about 8 m high and has an adjacent scree field. A small, rectangular plateau can be climbed via an iron staircase with railings, which in turn is also secured with railings. It is located about 300 m southwest (as the crow flies) of the Trittbrunnenweg / Bergsteinstraße of the Hambach an der Weinstraße district and can only be reached on foot. It is considered a vantage point of Hambach Castle and the Rhine Valley.

In the immediate vicinity of the Bergstein are, among others, the Hermannsfels (in the Kaltenbrunner Valley ), the Zigeunerfels (on the Nollenkopf ), the Bergstein on the Weinbiet , and the Felsenmeer Hüttenberg on the mountain of the same name.

Traffic and walking

District road 14 passes east of Bergstein, and Bergsteinstrasse is also nearby. The Palatinate Weinsteig leads directly past the Bergstein . In addition, the Five Senses Path passes him just to the east.
