A mountain accident is a damaging event in the mountains in which people have been involved in an accident . Mostly these are emergencies involving hikers, climbers or skiers.

Most mountain accidents involve injuries

A mountain accident can also be caused by disorientation , heavy snowfall or storm , illness (e.g. altitude sickness , hypothermia , dehydration ), avalanches or falling rocks.

Common emergency calls are the alpine emergency signal (systematic SOS signs), but also signal rockets and, if necessary, radio messages .
