from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beriev Be-1 ( Russian Бериев Бе-1 ) was a jet-powered ground - effect vehicle made by the Soviet manufacturer Beriev . It was created at the suggestion of Robert Bartini . The first flight took place in 1961 instead of after Bartini Berijew 1956 had pointed out the possibilities of utilization of ground effect. The jet engine used was a Tumanski RU-19 , which was arranged behind the wing. To simplify the experiments, a landing gear was mounted so that it was an amphibian . The trials lasted until 1964 and were so successful that larger types began to be designed.
