The Beriev MBR-5 ( Russian Бериев МБР-5 ) was a Soviet amphibious aircraft of the OKB Beriev .

Development and construction

The single-engine high - wing aircraft was built using a composite construction. The hull was made of wood with canvas covering. The wings were welded from steel tubes and also covered with canvas. The main landing gear of the tail tail landing gear was retractable. Support floats were mounted under the wing. The hull boat was designed in two stages.

The machine was equipped with two machine guns in rotating turrets and the launching armament was carried under the wing.

Overall, the design was similar to the very successful Beriev MBR-2 . Like these, the machine should be used for close-range reconnaissance. A radial engine seated high above the center section of the wing served as drive, which drove a pulling propeller.

The only machine was completed in August 1935 and flown for the first time the following month. The flight performance was satisfactory, but there were constant minor problems. Once a fire broke out on board, but it was extinguished.

The aircraft should be transferred to Sevastopol for acceptance , but it crashed . The machine could be repaired, but the project was discontinued.
