The Bering River is a 40 km long tributary of the Gulf of Alaska in southern Alaska (USA).

The Bering River used to form a direct outflow in the far west of the Bering Glacier . The Bering Glacier has retreated sharply in the past and separated from its western tributary glacier, the Steller Glacier . Furthermore, sediments were deposited below the glacier tongue of the Steller Glacier, so that the Bering River was gradually cut off at the upper reaches. The upper 3.5 km to the junction with Canyon Creek have therefore fallen dry in places. All of the major tributaries of the Bering River are glacier-fed. Canyon Creek has its origin on the southern edge of the Martin River Glacier . One kilometer downstream, Stillwater Creek , which is the drain of Kushtaka Lake , flows into the Bering River. This flows mainly in a south-westerly direction to the sea. Further downstream, the Bering River takes in Shepherd Creek from the right and the Gandil River from the left. The latter drains the Steller glacier. The estuary of the Bering River merges into Strawberry Harbor to the west and Controller Bay to the east . The island Kanak Iceland is upstream of the estuary. 40 km further west is the mouth of the Copper River . The Bering River runs in the far east of the Chugach National Forest .
