Berja / 'be̞rxä / is a city in the autonomous region of Andalusia in southern Spain . It belongs to the province of Almería and has 12,415 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).

The city lies in a valley covered with vines . The distance to Almería in the east is about 60 kilometers by road, that to Adra on the Mediterranean coast in the south is about 15 kilometers.

In Berja there are interesting monuments from the 19th century: the parish church and the town hall facade in an original late classicist style. From Berja you can reach the pilgrimage church Virgen de Gádor, three kilometers away, and the recreational area of Castala in the north, six kilometers away .
