Berkeley [ bɑːklɪ ] is a municipality in the county of Gloucestershire ( England ), on the River Severn , 27 km north-northeast of Bristol .

Berkeley is the birthplace of Thomas de Berkeley and Edward Jenners . In 1327 Edward II was murdered at Berkeley Castle . The decommissioned Berkeley nuclear power plant is located in Berkeley .
