BerlinMan
The BerlinMan is the largest triathlon event in the Berlin and Brandenburg area.
organization
BerlinMan has been held every two years since 1992.
The BerlinMan is always offered in two distances:
- Middle-distance triathlon ("Half-Distance") over 2.2 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 20 km running
- Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running)
- "Jedermensch-Triathlon" over 0.8 km swimming, 24 km cycling and 5 km running
In the years 1998 to 2002 there was also a quadrathlon . The MiniMan has also been offered for children since 2004 . The BerlinMan has always been organized by the Berlin triathlon club Weltraumjogger Berlin e. V. and the Club TriFinisher Berlin has supported it since 2004, although it withdrew in 2015.
history
The first BerlinMan took place on August 22, 1992 with over 800 finishers. With the start in the Wannsee lido and the finish in the stadium on Onkel-Tom-Straße, there were two complete transition areas.
The second BerlinMan on August 27, 1994 moved to the youth hostel on Wannsee. The start area, transition area and finish area were now in one place, which attracted significantly more spectators to the courses. The third BerlinMan took place on August 3, 1996.
In 1998 an additional square hockey race was held for the first time . Here Miroslav Podborsky ( Česká spořitelna ) won in a time of 3:10:19 h over the distances of 2.2 km swimming, 47 km cycling, 10 km paddling and 10 km running. The competition took place on August 29, 1998.

At the fifth BerlinMan on August 19, 2000 there was a live broadcast of the competition on the Internet. This competition was held for the first time with transponders for time recording. A quadrathlon was again integrated, which was held as a European championship.
The sixth BerlinMan took place on August 17, 2002 and the men's race went to Maik Twelsiek . For the first time, a TriCup was integrated with the most important triathlon competitions in Germany. The quadrathlon was held as a world championship.
In 2004, instead of the middle distance, the Olympic distance over 1.5 km swimming, 42 km cycling and 10 km running in heavy rain was held for the first time. In addition, the space joggers have chosen TriFinisher Berlin as co-organizer.
The eighth BerlinMan took place in bright sunshine on September 3, 2006.
On August 24th, 2008 the ninth BerlinMan was held - again in pouring rain. For the first time, there was also a MiniMan for children.
For the tenth BerlinMan, the Wannsee lido was again chosen as the venue. The BerlinMan is getting back to its roots and for the first time the competition took place on two days (August 21 and 22, 2010) due to the large number of participants.
The eleventh BerlinMan on September 8th and 9th, 2012 once again recorded a record number of participants: More than 1,100 competitors again took part in the Wannsee lido and reached the finish line. There were also 50 children at MiniMan.
On August 30 and 31, 2014, the twelfth BerlinMan with Quadrathlon World Championships took place in the sprint.
Since the 2015 season, BerlinMan has been the main sponsor of the triathlon team: "BSV Friesen-BerlinMan-Team", which competes in the 2nd Triathlon Bundesliga of the German Triathlon Union .
In 2016 the competition took place again on September 10th and 11th with sprint and middle distance. The BerlinMan was held for the 14th time on September 1 and 2, 2018. The main competition for women was Julia Leenders from the Space Jogger Club and Maurice Witt from BSV Friesen .
In 2020, the 15th BerlinMan was to be celebrated with a small anniversary in August. Due to the corona pandemic , the organizer space jogger unfortunately had to cancel the competition and postpone it to the next year. The BerlinMan will take place for the first time on August 21 & 22, 2021 in an odd year.
