Laura Bieger (born April 18, 1971 in Kiel ) is a German American player, former professional triathlete and Ironman winner (2001).

Career

Laura Bieger has lived in Berlin-Mitte since 1991 .

She was active as a professional triathlete from 1996 to 2002.

In 2001 she won the Ironman distance on Lanzarote (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running). In 2003 she declared her active time over.

From 1991 to 2000 she studied American studies , history and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . In 2006 she did her PhD with Winfried Fluck . From 2007 to 2014 Bieger was Junior Professor of American Culture at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at the Free University of Berlin. Teaching and research stays led Bieger u. a. to the University of North Carolina, Dartmouth College and the University of California, Berkeley .

Since 2014 she has been a full professor for North American Studies at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .
