The Dresdener Bahnhof was the original terminus of the Berlin-Dresden Railway in Berlin .

The Dresden train station was located south of the Landwehr Canal between the freight stations of the Berlin-Potsdamer Railway and the Anhalter Bahn with access from Luckenwalder Strasse. Today, the Gleisdreieck underground station and the buildings of the former Luckenwalder Strasse post station are located here . The facilities of the freight yard of the Berlin-Dresden Railway connected to the south of the passenger station. The train station was in the Tempelhof suburb , the site today belongs to the Berlin district of Kreuzberg .

On April 22, 1872, the War Ministry decided to build and operate a military railway along the future line of the Berlin-Dresden Railway Company between Berlin and Zossen . In the contract dated January 9, 1873, called “puncturing”, it was stipulated that the railway company would take over the acquisition and manufacture of the subgrade , the construction of the track and the bridges and the procurement of the superstructure and operating materials for the military railway . In return, she was given military-fiscal land between the Anhalter freight stations and the Potsdam Railway to build her station.

The " founder crash " brought the railway company into financial difficulties in 1873, from which it never recovered. Therefore, the construction of a large reception building was postponed and in its place an elongated half-timbered building (with covered platforms) was erected on the west side of the platform systems using the simplest construction method . Its access was on the extended Schöneberger Strasse. The freight yard extended to today's Yorckstraße, south of which the depot with two locomotive sheds and the auxiliary buildings were located. The construction of a representative station building was planned at the head end of the railway facilities on Luckenwalder Strasse, but was not implemented.

The station was inaugurated on June 17, 1875 and served traffic to and from Dresden . Its counterpart there was the Berlin train station in the Dresden-Friedrichstadt district . Prague and Vienna could be reached with through cars .

In 1875 the bridges of the Dresden Railway were also built, at the same time as the new construction of the pivoted Yorckstrasse. The still preserved and restored 2012 bridge no. 5 - according to current counts - of the Yorckbrücken dates from this time. The bridges of the Potsdamer Stammbahn and the Anhalter Bahn over the Yorckstraße were built a few years later.

Just a few years after the opening, it was decided to direct passenger traffic on the Berlin-Dresden Railway to the new Anhalter Bahnhof, which opened in 1880 . Thus, the Dresden train station was closed again as a passenger station on October 15, 1882. All buildings for passenger traffic were demolished in the following years.

The track triangle of the Berlin subway was built on the vacated site in 1901 and the Berlin Postbahnhof in 1907 . The latter served to supply Berlin with parcels and other goods. It gained particular importance during the division of Germany , as it connected West Berlin with the federal territory. The Postbahnhof was shut down in 1997.
