MyFest 2012: Berliner Energietisch collects signatures for the referendum

The Berliner Energietisch is a non-party association of around 55 Berlin organizations, initiatives and individuals with the aim of remunicipalising the city's energy supply .

The alliance, founded in 2011, sees itself as an open platform for everyone who wants to work for a “socially just, ecologically sustainable and democratically controlled” supply of electricity, gas and heat in Berlin. In order to achieve this, the Energietisch initiated the referendum on the remunicipalisation of Berlin's energy supply in 2012 . The referendum aims to set up Berlin’s own public utility and to found a network company . The energy table is aiming for a 100 percent energy supply for Berlin on the basis of decentrally generated renewable energy .

Members

Around 55 organizations carry the energy table, including the Berlin sections of Attac , BUND , Volkssolidarität and GEW, as well as local organizations such as the Berlin tenants' association , the Berlin tenant community and the FelS group, which is part of the interventionist left . The alliance sees itself as independent of parties , but is supported by the state associations of the SPD , Greens , Left , Pirates and ödp .

structure

The energy table is divided into the plenum as well as a sponsoring group, several working groups and a campaign office. Fundamental decisions such as the formulation of the draft law or the election of confidants are made in plenary by all support organizations and individuals. In the plenum, working groups are also formed on current topics, which work in consultation with the office and the sponsoring group.

The group of sponsors deals with issues such as strategic campaign planning, personnel and budget decisions. The sponsoring group meetings are public. The campaign office implements the decisions of the plenary and sponsoring groups.

For the referendum, five confidants were elected as representatives and contact persons in the energetic plenum : Michael Below ( FelS ), Michael Efler (BürgerBegehren Klimaschutz), Kathrin Linsler ( Noya Berlin), Tilmann Heuser ( BUND Berlin) and Kerstin Schmidt ( Green League Berlin).

history

Since the privatization of the municipal utility Bewag in 1997, there have been various proposals and initiatives for remunicipalisation, but without success.

At the end of 2010, on the initiative of the groups Attac Berlin, BürgerBegehren Klimaschutz and PowerShift, an exchange began on the possibilities of taking over the Berlin power grid by the city. One result was a brochure with an overview of the three energy networks ( electricity , gas and district heating ) and the advantages of a renewed transfer to the public sector.

Inspired by the successful model of the Berlin water table , the energy table was founded in July 2011 after only a test order for remunicipalisation was anchored in the coalition agreement between the SPD and CDU.

Referendum 2013

The first resolutions of the alliance concerned the initiation of a referendum and a joint draft law "for a democratic, ecological and social energy supply in Berlin". The referendum failed on November 3, 2013.
