The Myfest [ ˈmaɪfɛst ] has been a street festival in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg , which has been held annually on May 1st (Labor Day, May Day or labor movement day ) since 2003. It is aimed primarily at children and young people and offers a wide range of culinary and cultural activities Offers concerts up to fire service performances.

The name is pronounced like “Maifest” and is a made-up word from this term and the English my for “my”.

It is organized by the Myfest network , a broad alliance of residents, traders and civic initiatives. In 2004, the organizers received a prevention award from the State of Berlin.

The festival is primarily intended to cover the areas around Kottbusser Tor , Heinrichplatz and Oranienstrasse with peaceful people in a festive atmosphere in order to counteract the riots on May 1st in this area and to offer potential violent criminals alternative entertainment. The increasingly peaceful course of the Kreuzberg May celebrations since 2003 is primarily attributed to Myfest by the police, politicians and residents. It is therefore funded by the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office and the Berlin police as part of the “AHA!” Concept .

In 2007, 2008 and 2009 Denis Cuspert alias Deso Dogg , who later became a jihadist , was on the hip-hop stage in Naunynstrasse.

Mariannenplatz has also been held on May 1st since 1996 .

In March 2018, the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office announced that it would be expanding the public celebrations on May 1st in Görlitzer Park under the title “MaiGörli” in order to relieve the MyFest.

Myfest, scheduled for May 1, 2020, has been canceled due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic .
