Bernard Bonner (* 22. July 1927 in Motherwell , † 14. February 2005 in East Kilbride ) was a Scottish football player .

Career

Bonner played in Scottish junior football for Stonehouse Violet in the late 1940s , before joining second division Dunfermline Athletic in December 1949 . For Dunfermline, he scored five goals in twelve league games in two years, and was used in numerous positions. So at the beginning of 1950 he played within a few weeks as a center forward , left winger , right and left defender and right wing runner , in the reserve team, in which he was mostly used, he was also called up as a left wing runner.

In February 1952 Bonner came on the recommendation of the scout Bobbie Archibald as a trial player for a month at the Welsh club AFC Wrexham , which played in the Football League Third Division North . Announced as a defender who can also play in the attack, he was one of seven Scots on the team alongside Tommy Bannan , Les Donaldson , Archie Ferguson , Peter Fisher , Stewart Maccallum and Archie McWhinnie . In the reserve team, he helped out in a game in the Cheshire League against Macclesfield Town in early March 1952 on the center-forward position and convinced coach Peter Jackson , so that Bonner on March 8, 1952 in a third division game against FC Southport (final score 1: 2) also as Center forward was used. In mid-March 1952 he returned to Scotland and continued his career in junior football at Blantyre Celtic .
