Bernard Dupont

Bernard Dupont (born September 23, 1933 in Vouvry , † December 4, 1990 in Geneva ; resident in Vouvry) was a Swiss politician of the FDP .

After an apprenticeship as a mechanic, Dupont studied economics and trade in Lausanne, Hamburg and Oxford from 1953. He began his political career in 1957 as a municipality clerk in Vouvry. From 1961 to 1990 he was there mayor and 1965-1985 also member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Valais . From 1971 to 1986 Dupont was president of the FDP of the canton of Valais. In 1975 he was elected to the National Council and remained a member until 1987. In the National Council he was a. a. President of the Foreign Affairs Commission.

Dupont was also active at European level: in 1968 he became General Secretary and 1974 President of the Swiss Association for the Council of European Municipalities . He was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Conference of Local and Regional Authorities in Europe , of which he was President from 1980 to 1982.
