Bernard Jabouin (born December 7, 1810 in Bordeaux , † 1889 ) was a French sculptor , mosaicist and craftsman.

Life

His father was an ornament sculptor, he followed his example.

Jabouin served as a soldier in Africa and took part in the campaigns from 1832 to 1839. Here he found interest in oriental architecture and after his return to France undertook archaeological studies and he made trips to Belgium, Spain and Italy. Due to his studies of the works of French archaeologists, he focused on the production of stylish church furniture. An influential patron of his work was the Cardinal Archbishop of Bordeaux. After the first marble works and sculptures made of wood, Jabouin became involved in art locksmithing and carpentry.

He restored the furniture of St. Seurin in Bordeaux and made the pulpit and some altars for the church. He created a mosaic for the Chapelle du Mont Carmel in Bordeaux Cathedral . Numerous altars, confessionals, statues, mosaics and choir stalls for churches in the Archdiocese of Auch , the Diocese of Agen , the Archdiocese of Bordeaux , the Diocese of Bayonne , the Diocese of La Rochelle , the Diocese of Limoges and others come from his hand.
