Bernard Mixon

Bernard Mixon (born June 19, 1949 ) is an American jazz singer and actor.

Life

Bernard Mixon moved to the South Side of Chicago at the age of 19 and began his musical career touring the Midwest with Chicago bandleader Phil Cohran . He later studied at the AACM , of which he is still a member today. He was a member of the AACM Big Band under the direction of Muhal Richard Abrams in the 1970s ; he has also appeared with Edward Wilkerson , Joseph Jarman , Don Moye , Von Freeman , Henry Threadgill , Anthony Braxton and Horace Smith and the Notebenders . In 1990 he went on a European tour with George Lewis and Edward Wilkerson; In 1991 he worked there with the Swiss avant-garde formation Nachtluft , performed with the Guus Janssen Orchestra and worked in the Telephonia production with Butch Morris , Christian Marclay and Phil Wachsmann . In 1993 he was the vocalist on the album Changing with the Times by George Lewis. Mixon performs regularly with the vocal group The Moods , who interpret the repertoire of Ink Spots and The Platters from the 1940s / 50s.

As an actor, he played supporting roles in various films such as Challenge (1993), Roads to Hell (1994), Brothers Against Will (1996), Soul Food (1997) and appeared in television programs and plays.
