Bernard Poignant

Bernard Poignant (born September 19, 1945 in Vannes , Morbihan Department ) is a French politician ( Parti socialiste ). He was a member of the European Parliament and the French National Assembly and was mayor of Quimper for many years .

Life

He studied history at the University of Rennes 2 and received his Agrégation in 1970. From 1981 to 1986 and from 1988 to 1993 Poignant was a member of the National Assembly . From 1989 to 2001 and from 2008 to April 2014 he was mayor ( Maire ) of Quimper . He was a member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1999 to 2009. During his time as a MEP, he was a member of the Party of European Socialists and the group of the same name in the European Parliament. Its parliamentary activities included strengthening maritime safety and, in the Committee on Fisheries, reform of the common fisheries policy . During his tenure, he was also a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development , the Committee on Transport and Tourism , the Committee on Regional Development and the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN ). After his defeat in the local elections in Quimper, he resigned from his political offices in 2014.
