Bernard Rogel (born January 5, 1956 in Brest ) is a French admiral . Since September 12, 2011 he has been the chief of staff of the French Navy (Chef d'état-major de la marine).

Immediately after finishing school, Rogel embarked on a career in the Navy and from 1976 attended the French Naval School . In 1989 he received his master's license for nuclear-powered hunting submarines in Cherbourg , which he commanded until 1992. He then took over the training of crews and captains on nuclear submarines in the Mediterranean.

Further stations in his career included a. the visit to the Ècole de guerre in Paris in 1994 and command of a submarine with ballistic missiles in 2000 and 2001. After further training at the Institut des hautes études de défense nationale and at the Center des hautes études militaires , he became increasingly involved entrusted to the General Staff and also had to advise the President on naval issues. Between 2006 and 2009 he was head of the Cabinet of the Chief of the General Staff .

On September 12, 2011, he was promoted to admiral and simultaneously took over his new role as Chief of Staff of the Navy. Released as such on July 13, 2016 by Admiral Christophe Prazuck.

Rogel has spent at least 27,000 hours on submarines. He is married and has three sons.

Awards

Rogel is in command of the Legion of Honor , holder of the Ordre national du Mérite , the Médaille de la Défense nationale in silver and other foreign awards. a. from Brazil , the USA , Chad and the Ivory Coast .
