Bernardo Aldrete

Bernardo Aldrete (born August 21, 1560 in Málaga ; † October 4, 1641 ) was a Spanish humanist and early Romanist .

Life

In his work Del origen y principio de la lengua castellana o romance que hoy se usa en España (Rome 1606; Madrid 1674; Edición facsimilar y estudio de Lidio Nieto Jiménez, 2 vols., Madrid 1972–1975; without study, 1993; Valladolid 2002) Bernardo José de Aldrete extensively proved the Latin origin of Spanish and described the Romanization process on the Iberian Peninsula. In doing so, he proved himself to be an unrivaled Romanist avant la lettre .
