Bernd Büchner

Bernd Büchner (born May 26, 1961 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German physicist and since 2018 Scientific Director of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW) in Dresden .

Life

Büchner completed his physics studies at the University of Cologne until 1989 . Here he was awarded his doctorate in natural sciences (1993) and completed his habilitation in 1999. He taught physics at the University of Cologne until 2000 and then moved to the University of Braunschweig as a visiting professor . From December 2000 to 2003 he worked at RWTH Aachen University . In September 2003 Büchner became professor for experimental physics at the TU Dresden in the experimental solid state physics working group. Also in 2003 he became director of the Institute for Solid State Research at IFW.
