life and career

Youth and the beginning of a career

From 1955 to 1960 she lived in an orphanage. As a teenager, she was strongly associated with the artistic and hippy milieu of Krakow. She was friends with Piotr Skrzynecki and Krystyna Zachwatowicz .

Shortly after graduating, she met Marek Jackowski, musician from Vox Gentis and Anawa (the band Marek Grechuta was affiliated with), whom she married in December 1971. She worked for almost two years as a psychotherapist in the Child Psychiatry Department in Krakow. Occasionally she performed at the concerts of her new band Osjan , which she accompanied on a pipe . Osjan performed in Poland together with Don Cherry .

Kora gave birth to two sons. Mateusz Jackowski was born in 1972. In 1976 she gave birth to Szymon, the son of Kamil Sipowicz (second husband).

Maanam, 1978-2008

The band first appeared in 1976 as Kora, Jackowski and Kurtis . After Kurtis left for the Osjan group , John Porter replaced him, and the group performed under the name Maanam Elektryczny Prysznic ("Maanam Elektro-Shower") and played mystical Eastern music with a very rocking sound.

In 1979 Porter left the group and formed their own formation, the Porter Band , and the Jackowskis recorded their first single with Dżamble . The group made its debut at the open-air festival in Lubań / Pomerania, with Krzysztof and Ryszard Olesiński as well as Ryszard Kupidur.

The first album was recorded in 1980 and released a year later under the name Maanam . The cast also Paweł Markowski (included percussion ) and the jazz - saxophonist Zbigniew Namysłowski . Many pieces from these records were successful and the album itself is one of the classics of Polish rock.

A year later the next album was released, O! , on which the jazz trumpeter Tomasz Stańko can also be heard.

In 1983 Night Patrol was published in English and in 1984 the Polish Nocny Patrol . This album is widely considered to be the most outstanding work by Marek Jackowski and Kora. According to many, the mood of the records reflects the atmosphere in Poland at that time. Tadeusz Rolke made the picture for the record cover. Guest musicians were Andrzej Olejniczak (saxophone / accordion ), Wieslaw Dziedzinski (accordion), Mieczyslaw Decowski ( vibraphone ), Joze Torrez (percussion) and Janusz Grzywacz ( keyboards ).

In 1989, just before the temporary dissolution of Maanam Sie Ściemnia ( It is getting dark ), recorded. The album was not a commercial success; however, it is often considered one of the best of the group, mainly due to its experimental sound. This was also the first time a video of the band was seen on MTV .

In 1991 the group returned with Derwisz i Anioł ( The Dervish and the Angel ). Again Maanam celebrated successes with the resulting titles Wyjątkowo zimny maj ( An extraordinarily cold May ), Anioł ( angel ) and Co znaczą te słowa ( What do these words mean ). The picture on the cover is by Andrzej Świetlik.

At the end of 2008, the "temporary" termed dissolution of the band was announced.
