Bernd Bornemann

Bernd Bornemann (born February 8, 1955 in Göttingen ) is a German politician of the SPD . From 2011 to 2019 he was Lord Mayor of the independent city of Emden in East Frisia . Bornemann decided not to run for another term of office at the beginning of 2019 for personal reasons.

Life

Bornemann was born in Göttingen in 1955, but moved to Emden with his parents and two brothers at the age of five. Since then he has lived in the seaport city . He has been married to his wife Ilse since 1979, and the couple have a daughter and a son. After completing his apprenticeship and dual studies at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice in Hildesheim as well as an interim position at the North District Court from 1978 until his election as Lord Mayor at the District Court of Emden, the qualified judicial officer was Deputy Chairman of the Association for Justice.

Political career

Bornemann joined the SPD in 1977 and has been a member of the board of the Barenburg local association ever since . The Emder elected him for the first time in 2001 in the city council; From 2003 to 2011 Bornemann was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

On September 11, 2011, Bernd Bornemann was elected Lord Mayor of the city of Emden with 11,170 votes (61.18 percent) against the individual applicant Martin Lutz (7,089 votes) (supported by the CDU and FDP). On November 1, 2019, he handed over his office as Lord Mayor to his successor Tim Kruithoff , who was elected as a non-party candidate in the OB election on September 8, 2019 with 75.4 percent of the vote.

On April 18, 2015 Bornemann was elected by the landscape assembly as landscape councilor in the college of the East Frisian landscape . There he is responsible for the education committee.
