Bernd Flor

Bernd Flor (born November 23, 1950 - February 15, 2006 ) was a German football player. Between 1969 and 1976 he played for BSG Chemie Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . He was a young GDR national player.

Athletic career

Until 1970, Bernd Flor played for Chemie Leipzig in the GDR junior league and was part of the squad of the GDR junior national team , but without being used in an international match. On the penultimate day of the league season 1968/69 he played as a defender his only league game for the time being. In May 1970 he began a three-year military service in the National People's Army and during this time played football for the Vorwärts Leipzig army sports community . With her he rose in 1971 to the second-rate GDR league and played 36 league point games with her by April 1973. In April and May 1972, he was the only second division player to play two international matches with the GDR youth national team , in which he was called up as a striker. From the beginning of the second half of the 1973/74 season, Flor played again for Chemie Leipzig, where he completed nine league games as a midfielder until the end of the season. Since the BSG Chemie then relegated to the GDR league, Flor played second class again in 1974/75. He was called up 20 times in the 22 GDR league games. The Leipziger qualified for the league promotion round, in which they managed to return to the top division. Of the eight qualifying games, Flor only played one encounter. In the league season 1975/76 he was ordered back into the defense and came to 19 point games. On the 15th matchday he shot in the game Chemie Leipzig - FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt (4: 1) with a penalty to the final score, the only top division of his career. Chemie again failed to stay up and then played again in the GDR league for the following three seasons. For two seasons, Flor was part of the player base. He completed 35 of the 44 point games and, after his team reached the promotion round both times, eight of the sixteen qualifying games. Every time the BSG Chemie failed and in 1978/79 Flor played his last games in the GDR league. He was only used in eight matches, in the promotion round, which this time led to success, he was no longer called up. After he had played a few games in the junior league for Chemie Leipzig in the first half of the 1979/80 season , Flor ended his career at BSG Chemie Leipzig in the winter of 1980. From 1969 to 1979 he had played 29 times in the East German league and scored one goal. In the GDR league he had played 100 point games and nine promotion games and scored ten and nine goals respectively. Then Flor played in Markranstädt for the BSG Turbine in the third-class district league . There he was temporarily team captain and in 1990 he rose with the team in the newly created Landesliga Sachsen .
