Bernd Kleinow

Bernd Kleinow (* 1950 in East Berlin ) is a German harmonica player . It is characterized by its musical diversity ( blues , rock , pop , spirituals and film music ) and its own, unmistakable harp style. Kleinow was an important representative of the blues scene in the GDR .

Musical development

Bernd Kleinow studied communications engineering in the GDR and worked as a graduate engineer for communications technology before he became a professional musician in 1984. He is self-taught and has been a musician since 1974. Kleinow began as a soloist and at that time was on stage with all the well-known bands of the GDR blues scene. From 1975 to 1985 he was a member of the Stefan Diestelmann Folk Blues Band . From the mid-1980s he was involved in various studio productions, among others with Günther Fischer , Hansi Biebl and Jürgen Kerth . Together with Matthias Gemeinhardt, he was successful as Blue Spirit . In 1990 he started working with the West Berlin blues guitarist ST .

The Capital Blues Duo was dissolved after ten years of work. Since then, Kleinow has been working with the blues and boogie pianist Thomas Stelzer , founded the duo Unlimited Blues together with Lutz Kowalewski from the Feedback Blues Band and can be heard from time to time with Hansi Biebl and Eberhard Stolle .

Kleinow was involved in the production of 20 long-playing records and 17 CDs. The best-known record productions include the albums Stefan Diestelmann Folk Blues Band and Hofmusik with Stefan Diestelmann, Come in and Gloriosa with Jürgen Kerth, Das Sole Leben und Schlaraffenberg with Karussell and Let The Good Times Roll with Zenit . Kleinow is currently performing with Bluesrudy in the Blues Incorporated . In 2011 he released his first own CD, The Harp.
