Bernd Kröplin

Bernd-Helmut Kröplin (born November 11, 1944 in Schleswig ; † January 1, 2019 ) was a German engineer .

Life

After completing an apprenticeship as a bricklayer , Kröplin studied civil engineering at the TU Braunschweig and received his doctorate in 1977 with a thesis on the elastoplastic stability of steel bridges .

In 1979 Kröplin received a Heisenberg grant from the DFG ; In 1982 he was appointed professor for "Application of Numerical Methods" in Dortmund. From 1988 to 2010 Kröplin headed the Institute for Statics and Dynamics of Aerospace Structures at the University of Stuttgart . From 2001 he was a member of the Academia Europaea .

In 1999 he and three employees received the Körber European Science Prize. The prize money of 1.5 million DM was to be used to develop stationary high-altitude platforms for telecommunications at a height of 20,000 meters .

He died on New Years Day 2019.

From September 1996 to March 2002, Kröplin was on the Supervisory Board of Cargolifter AG . Shortly before filing for bankruptcy, he moved to the board of directors , where he was to be primarily responsible for technology development. After CargoLifter filed for insolvency, he left the company as a member of the board on July 24, 2002.

Non-academic and non-academic work

Especially after the insolvency of Cargolifter AG, Kröplin appeared through publications on what he claimed to be a "memory of water". So he directed a traveling exhibition World in a Drop and published a book about it. The French immunologist Jacques Benveniste had already made similar claims in 1988 ; However, after a short time these were considered refuted. Kröplin appeared several times with the pastor and television presenter Jürgen Fliege , in whose programs esoteric methods and products were often presented; u. a. in October 2010 at Flieges Bad Wörishofener Herbst . He also stepped, u. a. on May 17, 2012, at the German Homeopathy Congress. The idea of ​​information storage in water is the basis for many controversial, commercial products for the production of so-called " revitalized water ".
