Jürgen Fliege (born March 30, 1947 in Radevormwald ) is a German Protestant theologian , publicist and talk show host .

Live and act

education

Fliege studied Protestant theology at the Church University of Wuppertal and the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . After the vicariate he was elected pastor of the Evangelical parish of Aldenhoven in 1977. In 1989, Fliege switched to the private television broadcaster Sat.1 as a representative of the Evangelical Church in Germany . As pastor of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland , Fliege retired on April 1, 2010 .

Television broadcasts

Fliege became known to the public through the moderation of the talk show named after him , which was broadcast from February 1994 to September 2005 in the afternoon program of the First .

The one-hour show was thematically aimed primarily at an older audience. Doctors, naturopaths and life coaches were guests on the program, who commented on the problems and fates of other guests and gave advice. Talks with numerous celebrity guests about their lives and their cheerful everyday results rounded off the programs. Those in physical or financial distress received legal support in connection with their willingness to talk. In addition, Fliege had people searched for missing persons as part of this program, thus enabling those who had been missing to meet their relatives again.

In addition to approval, Fliege also had to accept criticism. When actress Cleo Kretschmer interviewed him in 1999 , Fliege described God as "the old gangster up there" and a "crook up there". Because of this and because of his critical stance on German politics in the Yugoslavia conflict , the program director of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation Gerhard Fuchs wanted to stop the program and terminate all contracts with the presenter. After audience protests and support from some print media, the ARD directors decided to continue the series.

Nevertheless, the show was canceled in 2005. After that, Fliege continued to appear in front of the camera on Bavarian television in the television program Wir in Bayern . When he was critical of the behavior of the SWR director Peter Voss in connection with the ARD surreptitious advertising scandal in the Munich evening newspaper , there was no further moderation under television director Gerhard Fuchs.

After the broadcast break, Fliege presented the five-hour show Flieges Welt on the call-in channel Help TV from November 2006 . Since the beginning of 2008, the program has been broadcast daily from 4 to 5 p.m. as a live stream over the Internet, but was discontinued at the end of February 2008 because it did not ultimately bring the desired success.

In the meantime, Fliege TV is again being broadcast via various regional and cable channels and offered as a live stream or on-demand video on the Internet.

Magazines and books

Jürgen Fliege was editor of the monthly magazine Fliege - Die Zeitschrift until the end of 2012 , after which the magazine was sold. Jürgen Fliege describes his philosophy of life in over 20 books and gives advice in the areas of belief and personality development. He wrote his last book, The Healing Power of Water , together with Masaru Emoto . Jürgen Fliege called his autobiography, based on the horse whisperer Monty Roberts, People Whisperer .

Public perception and controversy

Since Jürgen Fliege's departure from public television, he has been repeatedly criticized for his appearance in the media. Above all, he is accused of using his celebrities for support and advertising, among other things, for his own pseudo and para-scientific healing methods, products and seminars, which he regularly portrays as a spearhead and revolution in conventional medicine and science in his program Fliege TV and for which he also advertises on his website fliege.de .

In this context, Fliege's various advertisements made headlines for a device called Aquapol , which is said to be able to use "gravimetric" energy to dry out damp buildings and is produced by a manufacturer associated with Scientology . No scientific evidence whatsoever could be provided for the effectiveness of the device, which is why the TÜV has been taking legal action against the manufacturer for several years. In an interview with the Evangelische Zeitung , Fliege defends his advertising activities for the device and calls, among other things, for more social tolerance towards Scientology and its business practices.

The so-called fly essence , which he advertised and sold for several months in 2011, also met with considerable criticism in the media. According to his own statement and product description, Jürgen Fliege personally bestowed healing powers through the laying on of hands and prayer. After massive negative media coverage on the sale of his fly essence, the sale was stopped in September 2011.

Ursula Caberta , the former cult representative of the state of Hamburg , also brings Fliege closer to esoteric gurus and Scientology and accuses him of making esoteric charlatans and their methods and products acceptable and giving them a touch of seriousness. Jürgen Fliege himself defends the methods and business models he is promoting with the argument that both he and these methods and products are in the tradition of ancient Christian healing methods and are therefore legitimate.

In the ZDF show Markus Lanz , Fliege came under criticism from the other invited talk guests and the presenter because of his business models and his advertising for esoteric products; Charlatanism, immorality and doing business with the suffering of other people were just a few of the reproaches that were made against him.

Disciplinary proceedings

In October 2011, the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland announced that there was a suspicion that Fliege had violated his official duties. With reference to the Parish Service Act of the Evangelical Church in Germany, which obliges pastors to lead a life appropriate to their office, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated. An allegation in the course of the proceedings, after which Fliege had indicated to a bride and groom that a church wedding would be possible without any commitment of the spouses to the church, was dropped at the beginning of January 2013.

Fly Foundation

In 1995 he and the television producer Johannes C. Weiss founded the Fliege Foundation , which supports people in need.

Private life

Jürgen Fliege is the father of two daughters and lives in Feldafing on Lake Starnberg in his second marriage . His fly foundation is headquartered in Tutzing.
