Career

Bernd Lehmann played for MSV Duisburg and Racing Strasbourg during his professional career . For Duisburg, the midfielder who came from Prussia Krefeld to the "Zebras" under coach Gyula Lóránt made his first competitive game in the 1967/68 season in the Bundesliga . On the twelfth matchday he was in the starting line-up against 1. FC Kaiserslautern and played the role of offensive player in midfield alongside Heinz van Haaren and Horst Wild . He scored his first goal in his debut season on matchday 17 in Munich against FC Bayern : In the 27th minute, Lehmann scored 2-0 for the guests from Duisburg. The 1-0 lead of the MSV was achieved by the other newcomer Erwin Kostedde after 15 minutes of play. A respectable seventh place was achieved at the end of the season, and the underdog was just two points behind FC Bayern. The next two seasons should be rather moderate for Lehmann, in the 1971 calendar year he had his final breakthrough and he began to advance to a leading player. From 1970 to 1975 he scored at least six goals for the zebras every season and was therefore included in the squad. 1974/75 he played his best season with ten goals and prevented the Duisburg's relegation.

He achieved his greatest success with MSV in 1975 when he reached the DFB Cup final . Previously, SV Werder Bremen were defeated in the quarter-finals and Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals . In the final against Eintracht Frankfurt a 0-1 defeat followed. In the course of 1975 he tried to move abroad and soon came under the French first division club Racing Strasbourg. There he was again one of the leading players, but left the club after a year and hung up his shoes because of knee problems.

After his active career, Lehmann also worked temporarily as a trainer. He was in charge of the regional division Duisburger SV 1900 .
