Bernd Nielsen-Stokkeby

Bernd Nielsen-Stokkeby (born September 17, 1920 in Tallinn ; † August 8, 2008 in Schlangenbad ) was a German journalist and book author.

Life

Nielsen-Stokkeby was born as the son of the German pharmacist Alexander Nielsen-Stockeby and grew up in Põlva, Estonia . He graduated from high school in Dorpat in 1938 and began studying pharmacy in 1939, but came to the " Warthegau " in the course of the resettlement of the Baltic Germans . He had been in the German Wehrmacht since 1941 and was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1945 and spent a year in the Butyrka and four years in Siberia . He then studied in Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1954. rer. pole. From 1957 he reported as a correspondent for the German Press Agency (dpa) from Moscow . In 1963 he switched to ZDF , where he worked for twenty years as editor-in-chief and commentator on Ostpolitik. From 1984 he worked as a freelance journalist and translator of Russian political literature.

At his place of residence in Schlangenbad , he was involved in local politics within the FDP .
