Bernd Pfaffenbach

Bernd Pfaffenbach (born May 7, 1946 in Kassel ) is a former German administrative officer.

Career

Pfaffenbach graduated from the Albert Schweitzer School in Kassel in 1966 . He then took up a degree in economics at the University of Marburg , which he graduated with a diploma in 1971 . In 1974 he was at the University of Marburg with a thesis on theoretical studies of Environmental Economics Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

In the same year, Pfaffenbach moved to the Federal Ministry of Economics , where he was employed in the “Basic Issues of Energy Policy” department. In 1977/78 he worked for the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations. In 1978 Pfaffenbach returned to the Federal Ministry of Economics. There he was first assigned to the “Fundamental Issues of Foreign Trade and International Monetary Policy” department and later to the “Fundamental Questions of the Economic System and Economic Policy” department. From 1984 to 1988 he was the personal advisor to State Secretary Otto Schlecht .

In 1988 Pfaffenbach moved to the Federal President's Office as head of department , where he was responsible for coordination with the Federal Ministry of Economics, the Federal Ministry of Finance and six other ministries.

From 1992 to 2000 he was group leader and deputy head of department in the Federal Chancellery, responsible for economic policy, financial policy and the new federal states. In 2001 Pfaffenbach became an economic policy advisor to Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and head of the Economic and Financial Policy Department in the Federal Chancellery. From 2002 he was also responsible for the labor market policy department.

In December 2004 Pfaffenbach was appointed State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor. He also became the personal representative of Chancellor Angela Merkel for the world economic summit of the G8 countries ( Sherpa ). Jens Weidmann became his successor in the Chancellery .

Pfaffenbach retired at the end of May 2011. He was succeeded as State Secretary in the BMWi by Stefan Kapferer .
