Bernd Saupe

Bernd Saupe (born August 14, 1949 ) is a former German football player who played in 1975 for BSG Chemie Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Until 1974, Bernd Saupe played with the company sports club (BSG) Motor Döbeln in the third-class district league of Leipzig . At the beginning of the 1974/75 season he moved to the league relegated BSG Chemie Leipzig in the GDR league . There he was mainly only used in friendly matches, besides, he played only three games as a substitute in the GDR league. After the BSG had managed to get promoted again, Saupe was nominated for the top division squad for the 1975/76 season. However, he was only used in four league games. He was a substitute three times, on matchday 11 as a midfielder in the starting eleven, but was substituted after 76 minutes. In the rest of the time he played with the 2nd team in the district league. Even after the first team was relegated from the league again, Saupe was also used without exception in Chemistry II in the district league in 1976/77. At the end of this season he left Chemie Leipzig and joined the GDR league promoted TSG MAB Schkeuditz . There Saupe played 20 of the 22 GDR league games and scored his only goal in the GDR-wide league. TSG could only hold their own in the GDR league for a year and then played in third class again. Bernd Saupe did not return to higher-class football, where he had played four games in the major league and 23 GDR league games with one goal from 1974 to 1978.
