Bernd Uiberall
Bernd Uiberall (* 1943 in Bassum ; † June 1, 2003 in Artà , Mallorca ) was a German artist and sculptor .
biography
Uiberall studied art at the Bremen Art Academy from 1963 to 1968 and was a master student of Gerhart Schreiter . Since then he has worked as a freelance artist. He took part in exhibitions and sculpture symposiums at home and abroad. His works can be found in public spaces, in museums and private collections in northern Germany and in his former studio near Artà on Mallorca. The artist preferred materials such as sandstone, granite or wood, but also worked with plastics or acrylic glass in the early days. He wanted to “keep the natural history of the material alive in his work” in the formal language of modernism up to Pop Art . He worked in the 1970s to 1990s.
Uberall lived and worked in Bremen, Mallorca and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On June 1, 2003, he committed suicide in Mallorca. On the property of his studio there is an eight-meter-high stair-shaped sculpture made of 800 sandstones, under which his final resting place lies. The Bernd Uiberall Foundation in Bremen would like to help ensure that his works and his work do not fall into oblivion.
