Bernhard Baier (born February 14, 1975 in Bad Ischl ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2003 to 2008 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council and from 2007 was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag . He has been Vice Mayor of the City of Linz since 2013 .

Life

Bernhard Baier attended elementary school in St. Wolfgang from 1981 to 1985 , where he grew up. He then went to secondary school in Strobl from 1985 to 1989, where he completed the polytechnic course from 1989 to 1990. After the higher commercial federal college (majoring in tourism) in Bad Ischl, which he attended from 1990 to 1995, he began studying law at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz , which he completed in 2001 with the academic degree Magister iuris. From 2000 to 2001 he was also a project assistant at the Institute for European Law at the University of Linz. During his studies he joined the Catholic student union Severina in the ÖCV . He is also a member of the Siegfriedia Linz and Wildenstein Bad Ischl secondary school associations, both of which are part of the MKV . In 2001 he became regional chairman of the young ÖVP and a member of the regional party board of the ÖVP Upper Austria. From 2002 to 2012 he was a lawyer in the Upper Austrian Provincial Service. Baier represented the ÖVP Upper Austria between October 23, 2003 and July 2, 2008 in the state parliament and on July 5, 2007 took up the position of substitute mandate for Otto Gumpinger , whose mandate was suspended due to a criminal complaint. After the state elections in Upper Austria in 2009 , Baier was re-elected as a member of the state parliament. In 2013 he was elected Vice Mayor of the City of Linz to succeed Erich Watzl , whereupon he resigned from the state parliament on November 6, 2013. His functions at the city of Linz include, among other things, deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Linz AG , member of the administrative committee for the company Kinder- und Jugend-Services Linz, chairman of the supervisory board of TechCenter Linz-Winterhafen Errichtungs- und Betriebsgesellschaft mbH , chairman of the supervisory board. Deputy of the Design Center Linz Betriebsgesellschaft mbH , supervisory board of Immobilien Linz GmbH, supervisory board of Bezirksabfallverbände Holding GmbH, supervisory board of Oberösterreichische Landes-Abfallverwertungsunternehmen AG, as well as chairman of the committee for economy, markets, urban greenery and road maintenance. Since 2015, Baier has been the regional chairman of the Upper Austrian Family Federation , of which he has been president since 2011.

Baier is married and has four children.
